Tobias Keene works primarily with oils. His paintings develop through extended observation and a careful building of surface, light, and tonal structure. The work reflects a sustained engagement with traditional studio practice and the discipline of looking.

Much of Keene’s work begins through direct observation—often with live models or physical references. The paintings evolve through a slow process of study, adjustment, and refinement within the studio.

When a work is acquired directly through the studio or through an exhibiting gallery, a Certificate of Authenticity may accompany the painting. Additional documentation can be provided for collectors, curators, and institutions upon request.

Curiosity toward new tools is part of the creative process. Within the studio we occasionally make use of AI and emerging digital platforms as practical aids for organization and exploration. While each artist’s practice remains independent - Tobias, Annelize & Michel -  the studio operates within a collaborative environment. In this way it continues a long tradition of studio practice in which ideas, observation, and craft develop through dialogue and continuity.
